Stadael Museum Extension

Frankfurt, Germany, Competition Entry, 2008

A new extension was proposed as part of the Staedel museum’s historic and ongoing development.
The museum reflects the intentions and styles of various periods, from Sommer’s initial plans, to Peichl’s postmodernist extension.
Like an organism, the Staedelmuseum has grown over the years as the result of changing demands. By attaching the extension to the back of the old ‘garden-wing’ we re-discover the back garden of the museum and establish the new extension gallery  as a connector to urban gardens and mediator between the introverted ‘traditional’ white box and the extroverted public space.
