The Lantern

The Lantern is a transportation hub that weaves together the district’s infrastructure needs with a series of unique local open public spaces. The site is nested along the future extension of Metro line 1 in Sofia and at the local crossroad of Druhzba I and II residential areas. The design is continuous and sensitive to the natural lighting conditions below ground and the integrated lighting features (back-lit LED “mood walls”) in the station’s interior and facades. This sensitivity enhances visitors’ sense of spatial orientation, clarifies visual connections, and optimizes the public’s flow in the spaces.
